MEET THE TEAM
Nurlena Binti Quadra
Position: Director/Office Manager
Nurlena holds an MEng in Civil Engineering and Environmental Management. Her experience is in coastal hydraulics modelling, and preparation of hydraulic study reports in support of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA). She also has an interest in environmental management and monitoring data. She is registered with Sabah EPD. Nurlena is also one of the directors of ADS and supports the company through both technical work and administrative tasks.
Dr. Neil Hartstein
Position: Project Manager
Neil is a physical oceanographer with over 25 years of experience in developing numerical models and leading field sampling campaigns across diverse sectors, including the oil and gas industry, coastal studies, and aquaculture environmental impacts. He has worked in more than 12 countries and managed over 200 projects spanning multiple disciplines. His research interests focus on aquaculture–environment interactions, marine spatial planning, and the geomorphic development of boulder banks along high-latitude coastlines. Neil regularly publishes peer-reviewed papers in collaboration with members of the ADS team.
Dr. Johnathan Daniel Maxey
Position: Senior Environmental Scientist (KL Branch)
Daniel is a consultant and researcher specializing in marine environmental science, with a focus on aquaculture’s environmental impacts. He has been involved in environmental and marine science and scientific communication / education since 2006. His current research interest includes improving aquaculture site selection and studying how aquaculture influences nutrient cycles and greenhouse gas emissions. He also examines how climate factors affect nutrients and oxygen levels in estuaries. His recent research highlights how finfish farming increases nitrous oxide emissions and how climate drivers contribute to hypoxic conditions. He is also a postdoctoral researcher with Swinburne University of Technology and collaborates closely with Universiti Malaya, and UNIMAS. He is registered with Malaysia DOE as a subject specialist and with Sabah EPD.
Noor Atika Abdullah
Position: Environmental Consultant
Atika been working in EIA and EMMP projects for over 12 years, across Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, and Tasmania. Her work spans sectors such as oil and gas, coastal development, reclamation and dredging, mariculture, transportation, and coastal tourism. She specializes in baseline surveys, including habitat mapping, water quality, and sediment sampling. She is also experienced in air and noise quality assessments. She regularly uses GIS for planning and impact assessment and holds a Master’s degree in Remote Sensing and GIS.
Shukry Bakar
Position: Programmer and Marine Scientist
A registered consultant with EPD Sabah and DOE, Shukry has been involved in projects related to aquaculture, commercial fisheries, habitat assessment, marine surveys, and hydraulic studies since 2018. He is also experienced in using GIS platforms such as ArcGIS and QGIS, as well as numerical modelling software including MIKE and DEPOMOD.
Chance Sullivan
Position: Project Engineer
Originally hailing from the US, Chance specializes in modelling, programming, remote sensing and office humour. He has a mechanical engineering degree from Oregon Institute of Technology and is currently a PhD candidate in environmental science at Swinburne University, Sarawak. In his spare time, Chance enjoys traveling, cycling, basketball and being mediocre at making original music.
Gene Cedric Salamat
Position: Environmental Scientist
Gene is an environmental scientist with over 10 years of experience. At ADS, he specialises in environmental monitoring and reporting, aquaculture, field data collection, GIS, and numerical modelling. He also has experience in environmental impact assessments, as well as Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) in construction and oil and gas projects. He is a registered consultant with the Sabah EPD in water quality and aquaculture, and a registered Assistant Consultant with the Malaysia DOE.
Azzalea Natasha Binti Wasnin
Position: Numerical Modeller
Azzalea is a numerical modeller and joined ADS in 2022. She has been involved in a range of hydraulic studies, particularly in nearshore environments. Her work focuses on projects related to dredging and land reclamation, supporting coastal development and marine infrastructure. Azzalea specializes in numerical modelling using the MIKE software.
Nurul Aqidah Johar
Position: Environmental Consultant
Aqidah holds a degree in Environmental Technology and has professional experience in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE). She has worked in both consultancy and oil and gas sectors building an understanding of industry practices. At ADS, she plays a key role in the preparation of project tenders and also supporting environmental related project work.
Mohd Adam Jono
Position: Environmental Consultant
Adam holds a degree in Environmental Science and previously completed an internship at ADS in 2025. Having recently joined the team, he is focused on applying his academic background to support ADS projects. His technical interests center on water and air quality assessment and monitoring, as well as coastal environmental studies.
